FAQs

  • Q.

    Is hypnotherapy safe?

    A.

Yes, completely safe.  Hypnosis is simply the replication of our natural trance state that we find ourselves in many times each day. When we reproduce this focused state on the therapist’s couch, we have the ability to create positive change in a calm and relaxed way.

  • Q.

    What is solution focused hypnotherapy?

    A.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern form of hypnotherapy that uses practical, modern and well researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. It is based on current neuro-scientific research of how the brain works and has a wealth of evidence supporting its effectiveness.

This form of hypnotherapy focuses on the present and future rather than analysing problems of the past and going over painful past memories. We cannot change what has already happened but we can change our way of thinking about it, as well as the way we think about the present and the future. As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist I focus on what my clients want to achieve rather than focusing on the problem that prompts them to seek change.

Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy uses the best research-based psychotherapy together with the power of hypnosis. Therefore, therapy sessions are a combination of hypnosis (or trance) and talking therapies and focus on identifying solutions and taking positive steps towards your preferred future – helping you to be how you want to be.  Provided you are willing to work together with me to make changes to the way you think and commit to the therapy process, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be highly effective in relieving a wide variety of symptoms.

  • Q.

What is hypnosis and how is it used in solution focused hypnotherapy?

    A.

Hypnosis, or trance, is the process of guiding a person into a highly focused state of awareness so that we can talk to the subconscious mind. Research shows that we naturally go into trance on average every seven minutes – when we are walking, watching television, reading a book. Have you ever been so engrossed in a film or book that you didn’t notice somebody walking into the room? That is the naturally occurring state of trance.

The subconscious mind is felt to be far more powerful than the conscious mind, and it is the same part of the mind which harbours the anxieties, addictions and habits that we wish to change or remove. During this natural state of trance we are able to quieten the voice in our head that stems from the conscious part of our brain. In doing so we gain access to the subconscious mind, thus allowing the mind to focus on and become much more receptive to beneficial suggestions and changes.

In therapy sessions we harness the power of trance to dissolve unhelpful programming, break the negative states of anxiety and depression, and move us towards our goals. As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I will help you utilise this state to encourage positive change, allow you to achieve your full potential and achieve your goals whatever they may be.

  • Q.

    What does hypnosis feel like?

    A.

You benefit from my modern hypnosis, which clients, like you, tell me feels wonderfully relaxing, like a vivid dreamscape, where change is easy and senses are enhanced.

  • Q.

    Will I be asleep?

    A.

No, you are required to be awake, your senses heightened.

  • Q.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

    A.

No. You change states many times every day and would return to full wakefulness after a short while.

  • Q.

    Are you insured?

    A.

Yes, I carry full legal liability insurance for your peace of mind and my clinical hypnosis training has been accredited by the Association of Solution Focused Hypnotherapists and the National Council for Hypnotherapy which means you are assured of a high standard with my techniques and ethical behaviour. Many cheaper hypnotherapists do not offer this extra security because their training may not be from a recognised, approved or accredited provider.

    A.

With my modern techniques, there is seldom need for physical contact and I will always seek your permission in advance if I need to touch your hand, arm or shoulder on rare occasions. For children under 16, I insist a parent, guardian or responsible adult be present at all times.
