“Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision." So said the late Muhammad Ali, a sportsman who defied the odds multiple times to achieve great things. Ali understood the importance of the right mental approach in sports.

How does it work?
Successful athletes are often able to control their state of mind better than their rivals, giving them a psychological advantage which prevents them from being affected by nerves, or not performing to their potential. Hypnotherapy is unmatched in engaging with an athlete mentally in order to bring about an unbreakable positive mental attitude, leading to the achieving of goals.
Whether you are running or competing in a combat sport: What we can visualise, we can materialise, and being able to harness negative emotions and thoughts is one of the key facets involved with sports psychology. If the human mind is capable of imagining something, it is capable of making it happen. The brain sometimes has a hard time distinguishing between imagining something and doing it in reality, meaning visualisation of success can be crucial to actualising it.
Find your 'zone'
Sports people often refer to being in ‘the zone’. What does this mean? Total absorption in the present – the point where outside distractions are barely noticeable and performance levels are at their highest.
Solution focused clinical hypnotherapy can help in reducing the stress and anxiety of performing and can help in allowing the creative sides of our mind to operate under the pressure of competing – this is when you truly enter ‘the zone’.
Used by the best in the world
Many top sports people have used hypnotherapy for sports performance as a major part of their preparation in helping them win. Among them are Michael Jordan, who many consider to be the best basketball player ever; Olympic champion gymnast Mary Lou Retton; 14 time golf major winner Tiger Woods; former boxing world champion Mike Tyson.
Get mentally confident
Self-confidence is an important issue when it comes to succeeding at any given sport. Our perceptions of ourselves can greatly influence how we perform. Solution focused clinical hypnotherapy can help us bring out our inner swagger, meaning we come to the start line, opening bell or whistle bursting with positive energy and ready to make an impact on the event. It is not necessarily about feeling better than our competitors, it is about feeling at the top of our game.
When we first meet it will be for the initial consultation, I will introduce myself and we will spend some time getting to know each other. We will discuss what you want to achieve. I will note down some general background and medical information.
I will then explain to you how your brain works and how we use trance to help us move forward. These explanations form the foundations for all that we will do as we go forward. You will be introduced to simple tools and techniques that you can start to use straight away to start making really positive steps to achieving your goals. It is amazing how many of my clients find this session enlightening and rewarding.
Subsequent sleep hypnosis sessions will last for 50 minutes. The first half of the session is spent helping you focus on what you want to achieve. This is called brain based theory and involves understanding how the brain works. It is at this stage you will set a goal to work towards between sessions. This therapy relies upon you fully committed to change. I will do my very busy to facilitate change and give you a helping hand but ultimately your success will depend on your commitment. Change can be difficult for reasons I will explain but with commitment progress will be made and quickly. The second part of the session is conducted with you on the couch. I will put you into trance and use a combination of relaxation and positive suggestion to begin creating and modifying the neural pathways in the brain. This helps you to start moving forward in your life. My clients really look forward to going into trance as it is really enjoyable.
The mental often aids the physical. Maintaining a healthy mind and body can lead to less injuries or a quicker recovery period from an injury.*

I would like to tell you how much my sessions with John have changed my life forever. Before I met him I suffered from depression, low self esteem, lack of confidence, worried constantly and drank too much. I had been like this for as long as I can remember.
After just one session with John I understood how my brain worked and had stopped dwelling on the past and worrying incessantly. I have gone on to have numerous sessions and I feel better than I have for years. I now have control of my mind instead of it having control of me. I feel very positive, am able to make decisions and most of all I am really happy. Things that would have once bothered me just don’t any more.
I would highly recommend sessions with John to anyone.*
Before the initial consultation, I didn't know what to expect and wondered if I would be able to speak openly about why I was there, but as soon as I sat down with John, I was instantly reassured. Not only did he very clearly explain his processes and techniques, he was obviously invested in helping me to achieve my goals. His excellent interpersonal skills and kind nature always helped me to relax during each session.
I've achieved far more than I initially set out to and these changes were so subtle at the time, it didn't feel arduous. But when I look at where I am now compared to where I was, I'm amazed at how far I've come in such a short time and eternally grateful to John for guiding me toward this outcome.
I can't recommend him enough.*
After realising that feeling anxious all the time and having a few panic attacks was not something I should have to put up with I decided I needed to make a change and do something to help me deal with everyday life. I had lost my confidence and was starting to avoid certain situations and was feeling unhappy and very tired in my own mind which made it hard for me to deal with home and work life in my usual way.
It was the best decision and I can honestly say it has changed my life, my way of thinking and understanding why I felt the way I did and what I had to do to change it and all of this happened in just a few months.
I would highly recommended his services.*
I went to see John with depression and anxiety which affected me on a daily basis. I was on medication and seeing a counsellor but did not feel like I was getting anywhere other than the dark hole I lived in. On my first session I was instantly made to feel at ease about my problems and felt comfortable to talk about the difficulties I had gone through over the previous years. After every session no matter how bad or dark a place I was in that day I always came away feeling more positive and upbeat. John gave me techniques to overcome my fears and anxiety, taught me how the brain works and gave me a cd which I used frequently to help me relax especially when my brain was working on overdrive feeding me with negativity. I can honestly say I now feel more like the old me and can see the light at the end of a very dark and very long tunnel.
I would highly recommended his services to anyone for any problem!*
